Citizen science is a big part of what we do at Prairie Ridge, so we welcome one and all to our weekly citizen science walks!  These Saturday morning adventures will introduce you to a citizen science project and enlist your help collecting and entering data as you enjoy a walk around the grounds with one of our naturalists.  Topics will vary from week to week, and may include gathering data on tree and garden budding/blooming, pond dragonflies, ladybugs, or birds.  Come once or come every week, we’re happy to show you how YOU can contribute to science as a citizen scientist!  For more information please contact Chris Goforth at 919.707.8882 or chris.goforth@naturalsciences.org.

Fireflies have always brightened our summer evenings, but in recent year their populations have dwindled.  You can help scientists discover why our fireflies are disappearing as a citizen scientist!  In this hands-on evening program, you will learn about fireflies, how and why they glow, and two easy projects you can get involved in to help scientists learn more about firefly populations in your area.  Come prepared to collect and observe fireflies by bringing a flashlight and wearing long pants and closed-toed shoes.   For more information or to register please contact Chris Goforth at 919.707.8882 or chris.goforth@naturalsciences.org.
