Pullen Park’s Discovery Days is a new series aimed at pre-school and elementary aged children. The series will run through September and October and features a variety of performers from throughout the area.

There is no admission fee for the shows. Parent supervision is required – this is not a drop off program. All programs begin at 10:30am and last approximately 45 minutes.

American Wildlife Refuge: Birds of Prey
Join us to hear about Eagles, Hawks and Owls in our area. Meet some live raptors in a wildlife show that gives you up close and personal look at actual birds of prey. Learn how YOU can help these magnificent birds at a show that is fun for the whole family.

Tuesday, September 17
Birds
Basic backyard birds will be the focus as we talk about their different colors and songs. In addition, kids will have the opportunity to see and touch examples of nests, eggs and feathers.

Saturday, October 12
Reptiles
Explore the amazing diversity of reptile lifestyles and characteristics. Discover many similarities and differences between reptiles and other animals groups including humans. Help your child overcome fears and demystify reptiles as they meet some fascinating live examples.

Tuesday, October 15
Wake Audubon: All About Hawks
Get an up close view of a stuffed adult hawk! Children will get to see the sharp beak, talons and beautiful feathers while learning how hawks live. Children will build their own hawk nest and learn how mom and dad hawks take care of their eggs and baby birds.

Mad Science: Spooky Science
Hear the tales of Count Eggbert and Countess Eggberta as they battle the wicked witch. See things melt, foam, and bubble!

Tuesday, October 29
Seed Science
This program is a great way for your child to explore the diversity of seeds. Through discussion and games, they will learn where the seed is found on the plant, how seeds are dispersed and explore the parts of the seed.

Calling all homeschoolers in the Millbrook area and around Raleigh. Join us for open gym each Tuesday. Staff will provide equipment, you provide the fun. Great way to get some midday wiggles out before school starts back again in the afternoon and an opportunity to meet other home school students in your neighborhood.

Get your homeschooler active in this unique program at Millbrook Exchange Center. Coach Shawn will guide your homeschooler through a variety of sports and games that will keep your child moving and having fun. Coach Shawn is skilled in a variety of sports and specializes in working with youth sports. Each week will feature a different activity or sport. Class meets each Friday! Sign up today because space is limited.

Moth Watch Program

Come celebrate National Moth Week with an evening of moth watching at Umstead State Park. Join park rangers and moth experts as we observe and identify moths around the visitor center. Bring a flashlight or head lamp. Program will end no later than 10pm at which time the entire group will exit the park.

Parents must accompany children, sign up preferred at 919-841-4060 or Brian.Bockhahn@ncparks.gov.

This can count as a ranger program or stewardship project for the Junior Ranger program.

Sweep Netting Safari

Come celebrate National Moth Week with a sweep netting safari at Umstead State Park. Help park rangers and moth experts use nets to safely capture, observe, identify and release moths and other insects. Bring hat, sunblock, drinking water and bug spray. Be prepared to hike about one mile, with a turnaround option to hike further.

Parents must accompany children, sign up required at 919-841-4060 or Brian.Bockhahn@ncparks.gov.
